im working on a friends 88 chevy s10 4x4 with a 5 speed (most likely a borg warner)...clutch pedal goes all the way to floor and is hydraulic...i remove master cylinder and slave cylinder and appears to be working properly...the clutch fork on the other hand flops back and forth in the tranny with no reistance about 1" back forth...is that normal?
The throwout lever should be attached to the throwout bearing so when you move it you should feel the throwout bearing move. One inch of play is excessive, I think you are going to have to look inside.
Just my opinion.
the rod for the slave cylinder that engages the clutch fork has pushed through the clutch fork...i dont think its possible but can the fork be replaced without removing the trans?
since i dont think it can, my solution would be to put a bolt through the hole and hope it will work...any other ideas? could there be another problem with the trans that would cause the clutch fork to seize and the rod had no other choice but to go through? i dont want to waste time fixing one problem and find out theres more to the story
Sounds like it just wore through. A bolt through the hole, and then let the rod rest on the head of the bolt? Maybe use a big allen or torx so the rod is captured in the recess of the bolt head.
Throw some white lithium grease on contact and pivot points that you can get to also.
