I'm debating weather or not to pull the trigger on a '97 F-250 Reg cab 4X4 with the PSD/ZF-5 combo. I read somewhere that when you hang a diesel over the TTB front axle setup that it causes all kinds of nightmares where tires are concerned (it was a diesel power article where the owner swapped in a D60 and claiming that he had to replace the axle pivot bushings in the D50 every 2000 miles). Are any of you with the 3/4ton PSD trucks having tire issues or does routine tire rotaion keep it to a minimum?
A lot of people complain about their TTB front ends, but very few people I know actually have serious problems. The big issue is keeping up with allignments, I get my Dana 50 aligned every 6 months, and it needs it. Aside from that, as long as they are not jacked up real tall they ussually do quite well. I would not hesitate on buying the truck on account of it having the TTB.

I would agree,...they only really turn to crap when you start lifting and working them in other than stock applications,...If your buying as a daily driver hauler on the street, than yes I would consider it,..if your gonna use it plowing or lift or offroading ,then I would still consider it but, I would swap out for the Dana 60,..easy swap!!!
I read that same article. While I wouldn't hesitate to throw a D60 under my truck, I've never had any problems with my D50's. On my 85, the bumper I was using was so heavy it required add-a-leafs to maintain the ride height and it certainly didn't shorten the life of anything.
http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...5&aff=national Theres the truck if anyone wanted to see it. I can see a crack in the drivers side speaker cover, a little seat wear, and I'm not positive because of the lighting but there might be some bubbling over the rear wheel.... Not sure why they wouldn't show the right side of the truck though...
Second thought.... I've seen other F-250 (OBS like this one) with solid front axles; did these people do the swap also or was the Dana 60 an option in the heavy duty trucks?
