3G Alternator Install With Pictures

I just scored a 3G from the Junkyard for 20 bucks. Clipped out the harness and 4 gauge charging wire to go with it. Chaching! it was 1/2 off day at the pick-a-part. It would have been cheaper than 20, but he charged me for the wiring harness. Oh, and i took it out of a Ford Windstar. It appears as if the van went to the junkyard right after a brand new autozone alternator was installed. It still has the sticker with the numbers on it, i wonder if i can obtain the warranty for it. Baller on a Dollar!

This is a great thread. Currently my 86 4.9L looks like it has a 2G. Not sure of amperage, but HAS to be low as this thing has headlights and heat and thats it!!
So are all of the 130A 3G's the bigger 8.25" case? I want to add electric fans and start wiring this thing on relays. Headlights etc.. Plus have room left over on alternator. The 130A sounds like it is for me.
Is there a direct bolt in 130A 3G?
Thanks!
Dave

Dave,
The 2G is only about 60-65A
You are a little confused.
The 3G comes in two case diameters, 135mm (95A, 4 hole) and 148mm (130A, 2 hole)
Both sizes come in a few mounting styles.
7" C-C pivot (3.0V-6)
8.25" C-C pivot (3.8V-6)
Side mount
Odd front 'V' mount. (for Mod motors I think)
I made the mistake before -but now know- that the 4.9 mount takes the 8.25" C-C spacing.
Look for one from a '90-'93 3.8l V6 Taurus/Sable.
You will need:
A new charge cable with 175A fuse inline
To tap the adjuster ear of your new alternator to 3/8-16
To modify your current regulator plug as shown at the bottom of post #41
Change over to your current V-belt pulley. (add a shim washer so it doesn't rub the case)

Ah yes, I thought that the 4.9 had the 7". Thanks!!! I will try and find a 8.25" for cheap. I am in no rush as the "Fire" alternator still works. I do like the "Ryan" install. I looked, and maybe I passed it, do they sell that as a Kit?
