Mustang II Rack

What power steering rack do people use for the Mustang II front ends when using a TCI or HEIDTS cross member? This would be for a 53-56 F100. I seem to remember that they use a wider rack than what was on the Mustangs.
Thanks for your help.

The short answer would be the one that TCI etc. sends with the cross-member when you order the kit. The long answer is that the racks when ordered from aftermarket suspension suppliers come (if required or you stipulate) with what they call “rack extenders” that make up for the increased track that is built into the cross-member kit. I don’t know what the 56 track dimension is (and too lazy to look it up) but the 51-52 comes out close to 60 inches (or stock) and the extenders make up the difference, most kits are using the newer racks with the v shaped input shaft. (90 t-bird???)

The racks from 79 to 93 mustangs with 74 to 78 tie rod ends with rack extenders are what fatman fabrications use. The 79 to 93 racks are less sensitive than 74-78 racks for a better steering feel and easier to find.

Thanks everyone for your input. What my situation is, I have a set of tubular A-arms and spindles for a Mustang II frontend that was pulled off a C#$^y truck. I traded some labor for them. The frontend had less than 1,000 miles on it. I am about to buy a cross member to put it in my 56 and being the tight screw that I am, I was wondering if I can buy the power rack cheaper at an auto parts store than from TCI. Again, thanks for the info.

I don't know the cost answer, but a call to TCI and a call to Autozone should get you the answer.. (altho you can look up the price online for autozone for sure)..

I just bought mine from full tilt streetrods.
This is the place i have bought all my MII parts from.
The box that came was from a Carquest store (part number 22-202F)and they installed the extension kit, all set to install.

The total for me was 277.95 to my door.

I waqs told from some local places they wanted a core charge because i had none?

So i paid no tax because it was out of state and no core just 33.00 for the shipping.
Good luck!
