ok so i have a 92 f250 with a 7.3 and a E40D i only have 2nd and overdrive if i shift it manualy if i put it in drive i only have over drive i replaced the fipl sensor the range sensor and after the tach stopped working one day the tach sensor the od light is on really dim and no one around here seems to have a scanner for it besides the ford garage and they want $240 to scan it what could be causing this? it is really getting to me and i am about to put it in the junk yard if i cant figure it out anyone have any ideas?
I'm not an auto guy but from what I read the tach has to work for the E4OD to shift right. Replace the tach sensor, a ford only item. It is located behind the oil fill tube on the timing gear housing, a threaded tube with a big nut on it with two wires coming out of it
Pull the TECA POWER RELAY, (Transmission Electronic Control Assembly) this is the relay that supplies power to the PCM (Powertrain Control Module). That relay is toast. It's located on the drivers side fender well just behind the windshield washer fuild reservoiur.
I made a post about this about 2 months back or so, what caught my eye was the DIM OD LIGHT and LOSS OF GEARS. Yank that relay and clean the plug, toss relay over shoulder install new one. If you have the trailer tow relay you can put it in place of the TECA PWR Relay, the relays are the same.
if that fixes it i will be happy and pissed off all at the same time haha do you know what relay it is? i dont have a repair manual yet if this fixes it i owe you a beer or something haha i am going to check it out when i get home from work tonight
the relays are all good i pulled them all out and pluged them into the relay for my kc's and they all work wtf i might just have to break down and spend the money to have it scaned
