What is the sensor or whatever it is called. It is located top side of engine, center back of block. What does it control or what does it do. I know it has something to do with the glow plugs, does it controll anything else. Oh yea, it's a 85 6.9L 4x4 single cab bone stock. Thanks

I thought the glow plug relay looks like the old style starter selonoid? This thing is at the very back of the engine, has a lot of wires. I'll take a pic asap and post it.
I know my 93's has the glowplug controller unit right in the center back behind the air intake and firewall. Its the controller and a relay mounted right on it. But Im not too sure how the older glowplug systems are mounted or look like..
85 glow plug controller, screws down into the drivers side head almost against the firewall.
Oil pressure sensor, one wire right on top screws down into the block behind the intake but just in front of the adapter plate, almost center of the motor.
Although this engine has the 87 style glow plug controller, thing with a vented cover right behind the intake throat, you can see the oil pressure sensor above and to the right of the controller.
The plug where the old style controller would go is under the wiring harness though.
That's the jem I was talkin about! Thanks Dave. Does it just control the glow plugs, or something else. My glow plugs are hooked up manual with a push button. If it just controls the glow plugs, I'll leave it alone.
Ok, how do I test the glow plug controller? I guess I better hook it back up, seems my son doesn't know when to quit standin on the button. All my glow plugs are fried! so I better make it teenager proof. I pulled 2 glow plugs, one is split on the side, the other has a bead of metal on the end of it. neither have any ohms resistance, both are a wide open circuit. FRIED!
