Please Help. 04 expedition died will not start
my 2004 expy (4.6L V8 70,000mi) was running great. When I cranked it last it loped and sputtered, barely turned over for a few secs and died. I did get a brief check charging system on the display when it was dying, but I think it's due to engine not turning over well enough for alternator to produce sufficient charge for PCM. Now it turns over fine but will not start at all. OBDEII codes of PO115, PO505, PO110,& P1605. PO505 is IAC Valve error so I replaced it. Still not starting. Help! What Now??

How's ur battery? My wife's 03 Expy was running great then one day it just failed to start. Replaced battery 2 yrs ago then last week the thing started acting weird again!
Sounded like the battery was draining again with slow start and almost EVERY time she started it the gauges would do the full sweep and there was a weird, long squelch sound coming from the dash. Thought there was no way a 2 yr old battery could be hosed already.
Took it to Auto Zone to have them diagnose battery/alternator and come to find out battery wasn't getting charged so it was weak...
Replaced battery under free replacement warranty & fixed positive terminal connector (cause of drain) and the truck runs like new again...

Battery tests good and turns the engine over just fine. I replaced the fuel filter today and nothing again. Checked camshaft while a neighbor tried to crank it and it was turning fine. another neighbor who is a mechanic took a look at it. We sprayed starter fluid into the throttle body and still nothing at all (which rules out anything in the fuel system). It turns over great but no hint of spark. He calls another buddy who is a ford mechanic and he is positive that it is the crank sensor underneath. when that sensor goes bad it might not register on OBD but he said that you get absolutely nothing no matter how much air and fuel you throw in the cylinders. $23 at autozone, will replace tomorrow and give an update.

First, disconnect the battery for 15 minutes and then reconnect. Try starting again.
Then: Have you checked the fuse under the hood for the PCM? Also, Remove the relay and replace it with another one of the same size/rating. Does the theft light (on the dash) flash constantly? What about the odometer? Does it show mileage or dashes?
My guess is the PCM or the receiver around the ignition switch might have lost recognition of your PATS key. Not sure, but its possible this is your culprit. It will let the vehicle turn over, but not start. Have you tried a different key? Pay attention to the dash, what is it doing now?
As for the Ford mechanic, no reason to just be a parts thrower. Shouldn't you have checked the ref voltage on the crank sensor before replacing? Disregard all of those other codes until you get this thing to start! They mean nothing to a "no spark" condition. IMO
If you decide the PATS isn't your problem, check for voltage and ground at the PCM. I would suggest taking it to a mechanic if you are going to keep replacing parts. Electrical problems can be a pain! The problem could point to the PCM (many mechanics replace good ones only to have the problem come back), so if you replace it, it could end up coming back.
Still no fix? You could have grounding problems, is this a coil pack truck or coil on plugs?
P1605 - Keep Alive Memory Test Failure. This could be normal, and don't pay too much attention to it.
Indicates the PCM has experienced an internal memory test failure. However there are external items that can cause this code.
Reprogramming (chip)
Battery terminal corrosion
Damaged PCM
KA PWR to PCM interrupt/open
Loose battery connection
If KA PWR is interrupted to the PCM, because of a battery or PCM disconnect, code can be generated on the first power-up.
Good Luck!

Agreed. That's an easy one. If you spray starter fluid in there, and it still doesn't start, you can eliminate fuel problems.

Here is the problem guys. when I turn the key on and open and depress the schraeder valve, I get no presure at all, the fuel pump does not run either. it has been this way from the beginning. A ford fuel injection guru swears it's the fuel inertia shutoff switch and not the pump, because I remember a distinct click when I depressed it (and my 6yo slammed the door before I cranked it last if that can set it off?) although the car still would not start. he said to put the old parts back on and try it again because I screwed something else up trying to replace everything, and if it still does not start, then I probably blew a relay or something. we'll see.

You never answered my question about the theft light on the dashboard. If it is still blinking while you are trying to start it, you won't get it started. I still believe the issue is with the PATS. Do you have another key to try?
