are you absolutely positive the ignition wires are on correctly?

i bet they are not.

yes i am sure they are. i have checked and checked and checked them. I did last night to as well.

my dad finally got ahold of his friend who is a good ford mechanic. he told me to double check the FPR again, and there was another dad couldn't rembember but it screws into the block and it Air something, but it's not the air idle control. it controls the air fuel mixture. he said check those if it don't fix it he would come out and look. something is making it dump more fuel into it.

You need to check fuel pressure again, it's probably different than the last time and you need to know which way it's different. If it's still wacky like your last measurements then you may have some other problem in the fuel system like a faulty switching valve or failing pump.

BTW.. the computer has no control at all over fuel pressure.

Crabby144,

You should start your own thread for your issues, rather then post them here on Kart18's thread.

Similar issues or not it just adds to the confusion.

1988 F150 Running Rich and bad!

I'm confused as to which thread this is, but for the guy with the red hot manifold, have you checked your catalytic converter? My 87 F150 5.0 EFI catalytic converter got partially stopped up many years ago and it would run ok until it started up hill or hit about 45 mph. It been so long ago I dont remember if the manifolds ran hot. I did have to replace the right exh manifold due to a crack some time after that. not sure if the cat caused the crack or not and i think it was more like a year or 2 after the cat problem. I will probably be posting my own problems as my mpg dropped below 14 and it is knocking a pretty good bit. changing plugs brought it up about 1 mpg. I usually get above 16. I havnt changed the o2 sensor yet. just got one today. if that dont get me above 16--- i'll be back.

Didn't have time to change the FPR last night. I did however look at it. I seen that the three screws that hold it are in from the bottom. Is there any advice to the best way to get at them screws and change it? They are allen heads, is that correct? Do I just have to get in there and get under it with an allen wrench or is there an easier way?

Thanks for all the help!

For me, it was a pain in the (can I say that here?). But, I have a big old mans belly and short legs. I border on round. The last truck I replaced the FPR was a lifted F-250 with 35's......Had to remove the front tires and stand on my cooler, and even then it was a stretch.

But yes, from the back side. I have confidence that you can do it.

Yo Jake
I too have the same problem, but haven't posted here. The same symptoms may be caused by different reasons in different vehicles so it gets real confusing when we mix threads...
see danr1 and gpedens posts above. I guess the trick is to post your own thread, but continue to follow this thread and add your own posts here so we can all keep the various issues straight and still get the benefit of everyones input.
Thanks.
I will follow your posts with much interest.
Chas

I keep coming back here to see an update from the OP (That would be Kart18).
But, this thread has been so badly hijacked if he does post an update I would likely miss it.

Why don't you guys go crap in your own thread. Leave this one alone.

Kart18, Update? Did you get the FPR changed?
