make sure your rear shackles are not almost rusted away.

I didn't think our year half tons could safely tow that much though. That's news to me!
My truck doesn't really like towing more than about 5-6k though. My reciever hitch is rated for 8k.

I think the biggest safety things are having trailer brakes if you are towing heavier loads often or for long distances and making sure your ball is rated for it. I have seen alot of ***** rated for only 2-3k on older trucks and I hope the owner realizes it.

Oh, these trucks can haul considerably more than the brakes can stop, and I know it!

Hey, really cool picture! Good looking truck! I bet she cleans up nice.

Yeah, I'd say he's running 4.10 gears or lower.

yeah my 5.0L 4R70W longbed is rated to tow about 7000, and has the tow package so I've got the sway bar and all that. Rear shackles are definitely rust prone though, both of mine rusted through and required replacement, along with the radius arms. Without the air bags though, your truck will likely squat unless you get your hitch angle about perfectly level. About pushing the trucks farther than they're meant to go though, I know people with only minor modifications like headers and air bags that haul far more than they should. A 5 sp 302 with 3500 in the short bed doesnt seem safe, but if you rarely do it, you'll most likely get away with it

I think your truck will pull it fine. I spent the past summer hauling equipment on the 14K 16ft heavy duty bumper pull. i never towed 14k but i got up to around 7, and the biggest issue i had was brakes, the trailer brakes failed on one trip, but the truck still stopped it without to much trouble. It was just scary.

I have since added air bags and hydro boost, and i tow a 5k trailer and you dont even feel it back there. It tows it better then our 07 6.0 f250, not as fast, but the suspension feels better.

These trucks are alot tougher then most will admit. I think the weakest point is the rear axel, and that doesnt matter when towing a well loaded trailer, it just looks bad becasue the truck sags, but you can fix that with air bags, which cost slightly more then add-a-leafs, but are much better. And i have heard of guys towing 14k loaded goose-necks with these 1/2 tons, and i heard they tow much better then a heavy bumper pull because of the wait being in the bed.

I think you can handle it no problem,

Good luck

I'd say it would pull it. My 91 300 with 3.08s will pull 8K at 55 all day long in 5th gear on flat ground, in 4th on small hills. I haven't towed in 5th ever since my tranny went out in June. But the point is at 1650 RPM it still has enough power. Accelerating at 3/4 throttle shifting at 2500-2800 It only took about 6/10 of a mile to hit 55.
This was towing my '53 Farmall Super H (#4500) and a 4 wheeler (#1000) on an '18 equipment trailer (#2500)
My 7.3 IDI isn't much faster, if at all. I've been happier with my 300 six.
