Looks like a Honey-Do vacation for me!
Front U joints are worn out on my son's F250

"Simply put"........

Pull wheels, remove calipers, remove lockout caps, remove small phillps screw gear and spring, remove inner and outer snap rings, remove lockout assy, remove outer wheel bearing nut then locking ring and inner nut (take note of small pin protruding inner wheel bearing nut and indexing tab on locking ring and reason for them) remove outer bearing.
Remove rotor/hub assy, remove nuts retaining spindle, remove spindle and backing plate. Now axle will slide out through hole in steering knuckle. Passenger side outer axle will separate at inner stub shaft outboard of inner u joint, release/cut clamp on rubber boot inboard side of boot.

Best to replace center IFS ujoint now that you have it down to that point, if doesn't have bolt in style stub shaft the u joint can be done working under truck. Not easy no but beats dropping third member, at least in my book it does! LOL

Installation is is reverse.

Thanks for the really great info, Dan. Any idea what size socket for those nuts? I imagine I'll need to run out and get them, or borrow from my friend. Thanks again, c
