i have the opportunity to pick up a higher mileage 04 f 150 with a v-8 , dunno which one yet , with a " knock " that kept it from going to the grinding mill otherwise known as cash for clunkers , for the really ridiculous sum of $ 200 . yeah you read it right $ 200 . i know its a bare bones truck / co. vehicle and have prolly seen it a million times as the co. is nearby to me , but the info i need is : i know 5.4 would have been a 3 valve , what about the 4.6 ???? im thinking of picking it up as , GASP ! , parts for the tbird and maybe i can find other uses for some of the parts elsewhere . im not a fan of the modern stuff and essentially thats what i view 'em as , parts . i know some of you'll throw bricks at me but .......... if it has a 2 valve im gonna pick it up if not i know a couple others might want it so ....

 

5.4 is 3 valve 4.6 is 2 valve. But before you get all carried away with the KNOCK, it could be nothing more then the cam phaser. Those trucks are famous for that. Makes them sound like a diesel after awhile. But has no real effect on performance. That truck could go another 200k without a problem. Even if you wanted to fix it, the cam phasers are not that hard or expensive to do. For $200, that truck would eb seeing road time if i got it.

 

ok doke thanx . the wifey seen it i gotta get hold of 'em it's bought as far as im concerned as she wants it to drive to work , leaving the new van at home to save the miles , and her work place is infamous for cars getting the hades beat out of 'em . they do however have a wrecked 99 sitting for even less ...... gonna see if i can get 'em together as a package deal for just a little more ............

 

Yeah, if it's a 5.4L, I second the cam phaser. Could also be a cam follower fell off (Rocker arm) if either a 4.6L or 5.4L.

 

a big help fella's ! seriously i got an idea of what i'm looking at and i belive as soon as the fella get's back i gotta talk too, it and hopefully the wrecked { right front } one will be following me home . it's an 03 too not an 04 as i was told , and the wife wants to drive it as her beater . i got a use for whatever it is under the hood of the other and a few of it's parts . should have the pi heads etc. { i know dont use the intake on a car ! } seeing as its an 03 and my bird relly needs a little cheap horsepower transfusion .............. so ..................... sheez and i just cleaned the place up a while back after i sold the last relic , my 49 to a friend ........ here we go again !!!!!!!!!!!!! new or not i love cheap buy's
