What Are You Doing To Your Truck?

On another note the new exhaust is in and sounding good. Wound up having to make both headers and went with Thrush Welded mufflers. Right now the pipes end at the mufflers under the bed but im gonna have a muffler shop bend pipes to infront of the tires like my old exhaust was.
Im pretty happy with the sound of the truck right now its really loud in the cab tho but running the pipes to the tires will fix that. Got a bit more torque with the new system too, the headers and bigger pipes are makin a noticeable difference but i havent gotten the carb retuned to know the true difference yet.

Ok lots of questions.
The wheels are from Eagle custom. American made in Chino or North Carolina.
Model 058
15x10
As far as mpg...... nope. I wish, but it just doesn't make a difference.
Interesting theory but in the real world you won't be able to tell.
The reason I stay with 15 inch rims on larger tires is that when you air them down they float real well because of all that deflected side wall.
I was purely focused on performance issues.
I have had good results on the road with these tires so I'm giving them a chance off road.
I'm a little put off by the so called "main brands" these days.

I agree regarding Main Brands, or Name Brands... I used to always put BFG tires on my cars and trucks.. but my last few sets have been crap, as were the Goodyears, Miclelins that I had started to separate... My latest on my truck have been Generals, and so far they are showing no signs what so ever of wear. I am switching my Mustang over to Continentals, the kids in my sons car club, are having great results with them, they seem to hold up really well even with a lot of Autocross on them.... SO you never know!

I did the same with my exhaust, I turned it out about 10 inches in front of the rear tires with an angle cut chrome tip! I had the shop match the angle so it is flush with the side of the truck... it turned out very clean, and it did quiet the system a bit. It still has a bit of a snarl in the cab... but it is not obnoxious!

ya my old exhaust exited right at the start of the wheel wells. When i got the truck the old exhaust ended at the mufflers like it does now and i had the ends added like im going to now. i was happy with the sound of the old system but it was butchered and leaking and still using manifolds so i opted for the complete redo. ill post before and after pics tomorrow

Hey Bill Dub
Hows it goin'.
Dave, nice job, way to make it work.
Got to work on Smokey, the '74 yesterday and today. Oily nasty thrash.
You FE guys will enjoy this. The reason she was smokin.
The oil returns in the rocker galley under the valve covers were all totally blocked.
When I took off the valve covers oil spilled all over the floor (yup they were full).
Took a while but cleared them out.
I'll have some pics tomorrow of a neat little tool I made for clearing oil passages.

FE's aren't the only engine design that can have that problem.
Thirty years ago I was designated a hero and a genius by my father-in-law (who hadn't a mechanical clue) while I was on a trip to Philadelphia. I cured his '61 Dodge 318 A-block engine from being the local "mosquito-control-special" with the judicious use of a coat hanger wire. Of course, the local dealer who wanted him to buy a new car couldn't figure out what was causing all that smoke.
When you fill the valve covers, oil HAS to go down the guides! I knew that from a time when I had a sludged-up 277 A-block in a '55.
Little did he know that I wasn't smart, just experienced!
