87-96 F250 rear axle question
Is the 10.25" rear axle the only one that Ford used in the 87-96 F250 4x4's? What about the F350s of the same year?
The reason I'm asking is that I found a rear axle for sale locally for a decent price out of an 87-96 F250 that I'd like to pick up for my 79 F350. I'm pretty sure it's a 10.25", but not certain. Just wondering if they used any other axles in this era of trucks.

That is correct, usually you find trucks with the full-floater Sterling axle, but some light-duty F250s got a semi-floater version of it - still 8 lugs per wheel tho. To identify which type the one for sale is you need to look at the hubs:
- if they stick out good 2" past the flange with the studs that the wheel bolts up to, it's a full-floater and you want it for your '79.
- if the are no hubs to speak of, and the wheel bolting surface looks pretty flat like that of a half-ton truck only with 8 lugs, then it's a semi-floater axle.
