Dang, that must be one heavy surfboard!

Go to the 2008-2009 6.4 PowerStroke diesel forums and read all you care to about MPG's. There are 3 things the new diesels get constant griping about.

1. MPG's
2. DPF regeneration perceptions
3. Radiator/Cooling system (including EGR coolers)

All in all, it's a great truck and engine. That pesky surfboard won't slow you down any more.

Buy a F150, or at least a gasser. Short trips are no good for a diesel, and you won't be hauling anything heavy.

Heck, if all you haul is a surf board, get a car with a roof rack.

What he said!

Big trucks can do a lot of damage in a collision, but they are actually LESS protective of occupants than most modern cars.
A BMW 3 series wagon with the TDI would be PERFECT for your use! More comfortable, safer, and more than double (maybe even triple?)the mpg!
