The E6 heads have a deep kidney bean shaped combustion chamber with the valves sunk back and heavily shrowded, while the E7's have a D shaped chamber with the valves clear for the most part. The E6 heads were further choked with a massive air injection hump in the exhaust port. The E6 heads were installed on low output car 5.0 motors in the late '80s and early '90 and the '86 Stang 5.0. There are reports of them showing up in some truck 5.0's as well but this is rare.
Here's a pic of the E6 and E5 heads side by side, the E5's are identical to the E7 heads.

Yeah I have lots of pics here... http://www.flickr.com/photos/motorst...7602458567072/
I had clrearance trouble around the crossmember with the headers I installed last year but no problem at all with the headers I had before. The crazy thing is they were the same headers.. both Flowtech longtubes, the early headers were a much better design and didn't hang as low so clearance around the crossmember was no issue. I cut and welded these system from mendrel J bends in 2.5" tubing.
