New guy with an old truck

I've lurked here for a few years, so I thought it was high time to post up my truck and say hi.

Country Born - the 1977 F150 4X4. Swapped in 429 (not Boss), 44 front, 9" rear, NP235.

Here's the night I had it towed home. The tow cost $50, which seemed astronomical since the truck only cost $300.

Here it is off the wrecker. Notice the green mold all over it.

Also notice pretty much the sole reason I bought it:

Cleaned up, it wasn't too bad!

But the bed had seen better days (and I like being able to actually set things in the bed without them falling to the ground below) so it had to go. Note the gross misuse of a cherrypicker.

Then another bed, some old wheels from my high school Bronco and some retreads later, TADA!

This is how she sits today. I still need to iron some things out before she's street legal. I got the brakes mostly done but there are some electrical gremlins I need to sort out. And the current work is floorpan related:

I'm still cutting away and making room for the new pans. Im excited to get it done. Now they set in position. I have alot more cutting to do...either making the hole bigger or the new floorpans smaller.

I do have a question about how I should proceed. The rust is actually only on the top floorpan piece, not the cab mount bottom piece. Should i just leave the cab mount piece as long as it currently is and then remove more of the top floorpan piece? Ive read some old thread and most people have worst rust that me....the cab mounts are fine; the rust came from the leaky sunroof.

Here's the offending sunroof. Note the headliner and cowboy hat holder (with bonus cigarette box protecting the glass). Also notice the etched windows.
All these fine additions were done by the PO, not me. But I love the character.

As soon as she's buttoned up, I'm gonna spray the floor in Zolatone and then bolt this in:

Here's the sticker on the dash directly above the CB mount. Yeah, CB mount.

Remember, all this stuff was already there when I bought it....keep in mind this is Texas we are talkin' about.

And, finally, a few shots of the engine. It's dirty, but it runs. When I bought it, there was a clanking sound coming from the heads. The PO figured it was catastrophic and sold it to me cheap. Turns out, the old valve covers were just contacting the rockers. I bought some cheap tall valve covers and problem solved.

Tips, advice, free labor always appreciated ;D.

Great site here.

Welcome aboard, not a bad investment for 350 bucks.

I like the glass etching but I find it interesting that the mural was only done on one side... And, yeah, I think my floorpan looks a lot like yours if not worse due to a leaky windshield...

You would think the PO would have noticed that the banging started after he changed his valve covers or rockers, which ever it was. Any how his oversight was your gain, helluva buy! I gave 800 for Effy and she was a hunk-O-junk "hope she didn't here that" but seriously nice find!
