Steve, there have been many threads in regards to frame transplants on this site and to the best of my knowledge (minimal) none are really successful and all are very labor intensive, but please do NOT take my word for it, try out the crappy search feature and see what you can find and if everything else fails, read previous posts until your eyes bleed.

To answer your question the best (and only) frame for a 48 ford is a 1948 ford frame, modified to your hearts content.

Check out some of the venders on this site, there is aftermarket stuff for the upgrades you want to do the suspension and brakes. Or you can check out a Volarie front end swap and a 9" rear end swap.

Do a Google search of this site for "frame swap" or "chassis swap". You'll find a lot of post about it, mostly negative. The easier IFS swap seems to be a Jaguar. Do a search for "jaguar" and you'll find a lot of info.

Steve,
Welcome to the forum. There are lots of vendors who build replacement frames for our trucks. TCI, Industrial Chassis, etc. Starting with new steel is more expensive, just less work.

Of all you want is IFS, power steering and better brakes, check out the stickys at the beginning of this forum. There is one for the various IFS mods that have been used and discussed on this forum. Many guys have installed the late model Jag and others have installed IFS kits from the various aftermarket companies.

I'm using Industrial Chassis Dodge Dakota front crossmember. Just yesterday I took my 48 F1 frame and cab over to them for Steve to install the Dakota crossmember for me. My welding skills are NOT up to the level needed for a safe installation.

I'll post pictures of the finished install when I get it back. It might be a while, as I'm moving to Tucson for a new job.

stevemaynard. Are you related to the Michigan Maynards?
