won't start......kinda.....

I have an 88f150 351w c6 4x4 that the fuel pump won't run unless I jump the wire from the self test connecter. even then the truck will not start..... unless I spray a little starting fluid into the engine then it will start AND run. if I remove the ground from the self test connector the truck shuts off like turning off the key. and ideas or suggestion are welcomed. thanks

Sounds like you have a ground problem, you're providing a path to ground with your jumper wire?

I'd verify good ground for the the bank of relays, or perhaps the computer grounding itself.

Don't have my book here with me so I can't look it up and narrow it down better for ya.

http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/?p=6 Scroll down for an example of the relay wiring.

Right. It sounds like you have power going TO the pump but faulty ground from the pump to the chassis.
