A friend and I pulled the entire front clip from my truck as a unit, in preparation for pulling the engine. It's only a handful of bolts, but makes a huge difference when yanking the mill. Also managed to pull the old dinosaur T18 by myself using a cherry picker through the passenger door.

For those of you who may question how easy it is to stick a M5OD in place of the T18-here is a pic I snapped yesterday. They are the same overall length, also note the stock driveshaft fits right in the M5OD. Should just be a matter of mounting the master cylinder, and sliding the stock crossmember back a few inches.

Block back from a jet washing, new cam bearings, and a deglaze job. Also got in my Comp 260h cam, lifter and spring set the other day.

Had to rent a forklift to pull the cab, getting ready to paint the rest of the frame and the firewall:

I think you are doing a great job. You are certainly more motivated than I am. You are going to have a very good looking truck.

That's an awesome job you are doing Newrider. I think you are going much farther with your restoration than I plan to.

Thanks for the positive comments!

I should get around to giving the firewall and insides of the fenders the same Masterseries and black enamel treatment sometime this week.

Rings and bearings should be here this week also. Then the engine can start going together. Did I mention I need to drive this thing to school on the 19th?

I didn't like the big rubber isolated shifter that came with the new trans, so this is what I came up with today.
Cut the bottom off the stock stick, and welded on a straight shaft from a Muncie SM420 lever. Not that anyone else really drives my truck, but the shift pattern on the **** could be potentially confusing to someone...

Cool. I hope the shifter won't hit the bench seat.

One good thing about the shift pattern on the **** not matching the transmission, it will probably tend to keep your friends from "borrowing your truck" to help them move or pick up furniture or whatever! That's one thing I like about my plain, unmarked shifter ****:

Disassembled the front clip today to paint the core support, and found some nice rot (probably from battery leakage over time).
Patching it up wasn't too difficult, just wasted a couple hours I needed for other things.
Welding sheetmetal with an arc welder was fun, too.

Hey man, for starters, your truck looks great.

Secondly, i am rolling an '83 f100 longbed, 300I6, clifford everything, holley 350cfm, runs 89 octane the best.

I am trying to swap an M5R2 in place of the SROD. Problem i have right now is i am running the stock cluster/mechanical speedo. How have you corrected this problem. I noticed on your tailhousing there is a speedo sensor or something. My tailhousing is plugged by the hole seems/looks to be there with a little machining.

If not on this site please reply pfly83@gmail.com

Thanks man.

Seems like you bought too new of a trans, mine is an older unit (pre-1990 I believe) that came with provisions for a cable drive speedo. Stock cable and gear plugged right in.

I'm not sure what is involved in switching out a trans to accept a speedo cable, but I'm sure someone can chime in.
