Weird Transmission issue.

This is weird. (1988 F150 5 speed)

- Push Clutch in
- Put Shift Mazda 5 speed OD standard trans into REVERSE gear.
- Feather Clutch and gas drive in reverse.
- (want to stop / slow down) Push Clutch in and that is when the weirdness happens.

The clutch disengages the transmission from the motor. And the truck starts to slow down, then as the truck starts to slow to a stop it jerks really fast the the transmission catches. The truck is an old one, 150K. I just got it a month ago, guy i bought it from said they just put a new clutch in it, and for the first 500 miles it felt like it.

What do you guys think, needs a new clutch?

Sounds like a clutch issue. How is the fluid? Leaking anywhere? I believe if your slave cylinder is not so good you can have problems like this. It seems like the clutch is engaging itself. Does it slip at all when youre driving?

Sounds like a loss of pressure in the system allowing the throwout bearing to slowly/suddenly creep back.

You'll need to watch it in action, push the pedal to the floor, watch the throwout bearing and see if it maintains its position until the pedal is released (motor does not need to be running during test). If it slowly creeps back while the pedal is held to the floor, you have a master or slave cylinder issue.
