So I had no idea who Mike Rowe was....

so I looked him up as to why this regular looking Jo was in Ford commercials against some other better know persons in the GM commercials...

Interesting articles, Overall, I think Ford made a good choice. The guy just comes off as an everyday working guy who'd you chat with over the fence with a beer...

Article asking why/how Ford chose him...

More background info on Mike...

I enjoy Dirty Jobs, and the show would not be what it is without him. He does seem like a down to earth guy with a good wit.

What that article didn't mention is that he is an accomplished professional singer.

I think Mike is a good spokeman for Ford, hes a talented guy. A lot better than the loudmouth football guy GM has.

Yea ... he never insults or looks down on all those people he visits with on Dirty Jobs .... no matter what vile, unskilled job they perform.

If I'm not mistaken he also is the voice on Deadliest Catch on Discovery.
Yup...thats him. (Those deck hands have a tough job)

A slightly better view at Mike Rowe's history can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Rowe

He's definitely down-to-earth & charismatic. I would like to see some outtake footage that will never see air time. Given his sense of humor and how he hedges in little bits of innuendo, I bet some of the outtakes are hilarious.

heh...yeah, that outtake show was entertaining, but I'm talking about the stuff that Discovery simply would not air for fear of offending someone's delicate sensibilities.

Mike used to do home showcase shows around here on Sunday mornings. I remember when I was a kid seeing them. He's a good guy. Never met him, but I doubt he would be much more different in person and I'm happy to see him doing well.

I heard Mike on O&A one morning and they were giving him a hard time about some home shopping show he used to host. This particular one was about something for cats. I like Mike Rowe. He's funny, he likes to mock himself, and he doesn't mind getting into some really filty situations and working with the poor folks who have to do that stuff every day, even if it makes him look dumb. I especially liked when he hosted the After the Catch programs.
