Drive Line Noise

On my way to work this mornin, my 95 Bronco with automatic trans started to make a really bad noise and vibration. I got to work ok but could not take the hiway home. Drove the streets all the way home.

When I got home I jacked up the front end and checked the wheel bearnings, OK! Next I jacked up the rear and checked the driveshaft and U-joints,OK!
I then started the motor and put it in drive. At about 35mph the noise started and got worse!
I cant tell if it's coming from the rear axel or the transfer case!

Any body have some advice before I take it to a shop?
Thanks for the help! Rudedogii

U-Joints solid on front and rear driveshafts? No wobble?

You could try jacking up the truck and turning the tires by hand. Just to see if you can hear anything funny. But you probably won't if its a highspeed thing.

Speaking of speed. Does it happen at all speeds or just a specific speed?

Prozon, thanks for the reply!
I feal pretty stupid right now cause for the last two days I come home from work and try to fiqure out whats going on!
The last two nights I have come home and gone right to work. Last night I drained the rear diff and pulled the cover off only to find nothing! I also drained the transfer case and found nothing but bits of rubber! I think thats silicone from the gasket.
Today I was at it again. Its around 6:00pm here in California and I just fiqured it out! I am dirty and oily and somebodys tapping me on the shoulder and wants to know if I am going to eat dinner or not!
Dont women know trucks come first!
Any way I never checked the front driveshaft. Because I never drive my Bronco in 4x4 on the street.
I must have engaged the 4x4 sometime Tuesday morning, so that made the front driveshaft turn. The front driveshaft needs new U-joints and for some reason the front pinion flange is loose. Why I dont know?

Usually a vibration under load is caused by the pinon bearing going out..but looks like you figgered out the problem

I thought I had it fiqured out but no!
The front drive shaft is turning sometimes and causing a vibration. When this happens I engage the transfer case 4hi and disengage back to 2wd and the vibration stops.
The other day on the drive home from work I lost power to the rear wheels!
Pulled over to the side of the hiway. I had no foward or reverse. So I tried the 4wd and it went it to gear. Disengaged the 4wd and drove home with no problem!
Does anybody know if my transfer case is going out?
Could it be the transfer case shift motor is out of sync?
By the way its the Borg Warner 1356 electronic shift transfer case.

Thats.... odd??

What did it do when you couldn't go forward or backwards? Did it rev up by not move? Or make any noise?

I could rev the motor. No noise just no foward or reverse.
I engaged the transfer case just cause at that point, why not try anything. So I pressed the button and it went it to gear. Disengaged the transfer case a drove home in 2wd.
