Well it's wrench time for my new, (to me), 7.3 diesel F250 4X4....
I'm taking a trip up the coast in a month or so and I need to get the truck as tip top as I can. Here is what I intend to do myself, although I would appreciate any suggestions or tips...
1. Flush the brake system with new fluid.
2. Change oil and filter with synthetic.
3. Change Auto tranny fluid.
4. Change out fluid in front and rear axles.
5. Change fuel filter
6. Add transmission thermo gauge.
Depending on the camping trailer we get I may also add load lever air shocks and a sway dampener on the tongue.
The truck seems to run well and is in fairly good condition, so aside from the above list, is there anything I should include or consider doing for this trip?
I dont know if this is your first deisel but my neighbors wife got a 04 exursion first diseal ever and put gas in first trip to gas station on accident. wouldve made a cool pic my exursion towin theirs back.
What year is your truck? Is the engine IDI or Power Stroke? There are great pages here covering both types of engine.
If you are changing the trans fluid make sure you drain the torque converter. And don`t forget the transfer case fluid.
Thanks for the heads up Lazy K, I've written and posted the truck model and year several times while setting up my account here, I now see that the info is not listed with my posts.
I guess I'll just have to keep listing it until I get to have a sig....
The truck is a pre turbo IDI. I found guzzle's goodies, he's working on a PS but most of his lessons have nothing to do with the turbo system, so are still relevant to the pre turbo and even non diesel trucks.
I haven't as yet found many IDI tutorials but, I am lurking like a mad dog scooping up what scraps I can find. I guess I'm a lot like my bird dogs in that I too need a little direction to find the catch sometimes.

A friend of mine had a diesel dodge van and had the vegi oil setup installed. The garage did the same thing, put gas instead of diesel..... Needless to say he was not amused.
Check your belts, coolant, and make sure your batteries are up to snuff.
Yeah, flushing the radiator is on the list too, thanks. I cleaned the terminals of both batteries, I'll have to get me one of those gauges to see just how much zinc oxide is in the SO4. I've never really worried too much about batteries but, I can get good rebuilt batteries locally which would be a lot cheaper that needing to get new ones on the road.
Go down the main forum page a bit to the Diesel Section and then click on the Pre-Power Stroke page. You will find all and any info you will ever need on the IDI there. As you are going to flush the rad read up on the latest threads in that page regarding anti-cavitation additives which are important in these engines.
Good luck.

Dont forget the limited slip additive for the diff....
What Lazy K said, lot of knowledgeable people in the pre-powerstroke forum. Lazy K...no offense, but when I read that, it sounds like a cereal...that I'd probably eat.
No offence taken! Fleetguard do a good supplement but I prefer the Case one but liberally sprinkled ON my cereal every morning. Lowers chloresterol or so I`m told.
