I'm a new owner of an old stepside PU ('73). Some question about year of manufac-- one old registration had it as '71, most recent called it a '73. Where can I get facts, using VIN, and what is the location of the engine stamp? It runs well enuf when it runs, but sometimes it just dies. As if it weren't getting gas. Carb was serviced & partially rebuilt, mechanic can't figure out why it does that or why, after waiting half-an-hour, it cranks right up again. Any help appreciated.
The vin is the best place to start just post it here and people can decode it for you with out a problem. As for the engine do you have enough fuel pressure is the carb float saturated is it 2bbl or 4bbl has some moron decided to ram down all adjustment screws. ect.
another place to get information liker what tranny you have and the axles would be to look at the info plate on the door. it is not your VIN plate but close it will have all the information on what is on your truck assuming parts havent been swapped out.
Here is what I found on your truck
Model Year: 73
Series: F250 - 4x2 Pickup
Engine: 8 Cyl, 360ci, 2bbl
Assembly Plant: San Jose
Transmission: No code selected
Front Axle: No code selected
Rear Axle: No code selected
,y guess is you proabably have a 9in rear end the easy way to look at that is roll under look at the bottom bolt on the diff cover first off if the diff cover is facving the engine and secondly if you can get a wrench and socket on that bottom bolt on the diff cover. if you cant you have a 9in
