I need a starter solenoid. My truck came in pieces so I don't know the stock location. I see they are available with different mounting options. Where does it go on a 54 F1oo? A picture woud be good. Thanks
Bob
well my 53's is on the frame rail , right side , forward of the battery box , but when i rewire one of theses months , it's going up on the right side fenderwell ,like all newer fords , for easier access . you'd be smart to put it there yourself and no one would utter a bad word .
Somewhere in the back of my mind I remember thinking that on the Effies, it was mounted on different sides of the truck depending on whether you had an IL6 or a V8.
V8 I belive was on the right firewall, IL6 in the left firewall.
The reason I think the solenoids were located on different sides for the different engines, at least on the Bonus Built trucks, is for setting the points. The distributor is on the same side of the engine compartment as the solenoid so you could bump the engine to get the distributor's cam high point. My solenoids have a button on the bottom so I can bump the starter from the engine compartment. If the distributors on the newer trucks was in the center of the engine, I don't know off hand, then I would think Ford had them on the same side as the six cylinders distributor. Also, on the Bonus Built, the battery was under the solenoid.
