If I ever get the truck done that I want to build, I'll have one stack coming up behind the cab. With a little exhaust flapper like on the old dump trucks and stuff.
I would love to come up behind Prius owners in that truck, lol...I love the sound of the old two-stroke Detroits. I like the sound of Cummins diesels too, but once I got a listen to a Detroit, I was sold. Plus I read that the torque on those 6v53Ts is like 600ft-lbs. @ 1800RPM or something....not sure, but it's no weenie motor, for sure.
Well the interview went okay.....made a booboo though, when asked if I'd report if my best friend/coworker if they stole money from the cash register, I gave the wroooooong answer. I learned today that it's a better idea to tell the employer what they want to hear...
The assistant manager said I'd get a call in a few days, so I suppose there's still hope. Though I'm not too worried about it, it's not like Radioshack is the only place here :P
I dunno, really....I would hope that I could put together a custom exhaust for it, so I suppose two stacks would be better. This is what I want:
Kaiser M715. Pop in a Detroit two-stroke, run a stack behind the cab, stick some nice tires on it (hopefully I could afford to get a set for on-road and then have a set of Swampers on standby for fun time), and I'm good. I know I'd probably have to put together custom motor mounts, maybe modify the hood for clearance, plus run wiring for everything, but just the thought of a truck like that sounding like that Power Wagon.....ooh boy, I'm drooling already.
OMG, I want that!! I think I just changed my mind and I'm gonna sell the beast. Just kidding...
By the way a 6v53 might be a little too much to handle for a pickup. You're talking about a 1700 lb motor. In comparison a Powerstroke is right at 1000 lbs.
something like that, you could probably run the exhaust right thru the hood. and put on a snorkle for deep water crossing. ive seen it done. it may even be an option on hummers.

lol
Well nothing's decided on yet. I don't even have the money, time, or know-how yet to take on a project like that. Who knows, I might choose a smaller engine, just depends on what I can find. But I know it'll be some sort of diesel, hopefully a Detroit if I can find one.
But the truck would be on at least a 1-ton frame, if that makes any difference.

I dunno what the local 5-0 would think about that....I'd hope I could get it to pass inspection. But that would look awesome.
Well I got the broken spark plugs replaced today....cranked up without me even touching the gas pedal (!!!), and when I popped it in gear it didn't miss a beat. When I got it out on the road it started misfiring again though. Or more like bogging down. I read about how a guy on here would let off the gas then mash it again and it'd stop bogging down, and that did work, but I'm aggravated. I guess it's onto other things like the carb.
I did also find out that the engine is no race motor, not by a long shot. I had the gas to the floor and it took me awhile to reach 2,000 rpm...but it accelerates pretty good, I got to 30 or 35 in a hurry.
EDIT: Oh and I didn't realize this, but since I replaced the PS pump and tightened both accessory belts (water pump/PS, alternator), it's alot quieter under the hood. The other PS pump made this odd ringing noise all the time, but the one on there now doesn't. Plus I moved the alternator belt to the third (largest) pulley groove on the crank pulley, and that allowed me to get the belt tighter than before. I guess the lower alternator bracket isn't long enough, because before I moved the belt, I had the alternator adjusted out as far as it'd go and the belt was still a little loose.

Actually I was just reading about the M715 and it was considered a 1 1/4 ton. And if ya pulled off that huge front bumper and winch and replaced it with a tube bumper you'd save at least 600 lbs. So you probably could run your Big Detroit screamer.
I like the idea of a Big rig stack behind the cab better than a tractor stack out the hood.
I was actually thinking about using a Humvee bumper....I've seen one in person before, and they weigh a TON. No kidding, you could total a car just by dropping it on it. I would probably cut it down a good bit to take off some weight, but I'd love to have a Detroit and the Master Bumper up front. lol
I wonder how hard it'd be to shoehorn a Detroit into an 80s F-Series? I've seen it done on a 70s one, here's a video:
And you can see there how I want to run the stack. Only difference is, mine would probably be just a straight length of pipe sticking up behind the cab with the rain cap on top.
I do too. For the record, it'd be plain ol' exhaust pipe I'd be using, not chromed. There are a ton of chromed stacked trucks around here, and IMO it's overdone. I prefer the understated approach. Plus it adds to the military look of it.
If I ever was blessed to come across some Rockwell axles, by golly....7.xx:1 gearing behind a Detroit would be something...but I'd get like 0.75mpg on the highway I bet. LOL
