99 7.3 F450

Hey Guys,

I am getting ready to do an oil pan on a 99 F450 2wd...what's my best approach at this. Lift the cab, or just pull the motor. I come from the 6.0 world and we pull the cab for most repairs.

Tell me what the right thing to do is....looks like I need to remove the Rad., I/C, and everything else up front. and then yank the engine out.

About how much does the engine weigh just so I know.

Thanks,

Sarge

pull the engine. it is 1650 it think.
pulling the front makes it easier.
you have to pull the turbo to have room to get it over the frame.

Pull it. To do the job correctly, the engine needs to be upside down on a stand anyhow. Weighs about 925, dry.

Oh yeah,

I knew it had to be pulled, just didn't know if pulling the cab would make it easier just waste time.

Thanks for the info. and anything else that's a must do while Im in it that deep besides a rear main. I already replaced the glow plugs last year FYI.

The top two bell housing bolts can be gotten from the top with a combination wrench. It's much quicker just to fight through it than it is to unbolt the cab. If the rear seal isn't leaking, I'd be inclined to leave it alone, honestly. Check the ring gear for missing teeth, and maybe replace the front transmission seal. Obviously, if you wanted to upgrade or replace the torque converter, now would be the time

And while the pan is off, make sure all of the piston cooling jets are there. Occasionally they break off.
