what product to use for cleaning head/valve cover/breather?

Hello, I just got my truck running again after parking it for 4 months. It was barely running, and I got it started today. I pulled the air box lid off, and it was soaked in oil! I pulled it out, and the truck fired right up and is idling like it always did, but it's smoking from the breather. I'm going to get a new pcv valve, and check the lines for clogs, etc. , and was wondering what product I could use to clean out that crud from the valve cover without taking it all apart and doing it by hand. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

IF you have that much crud inside the valve cover, only way to properly clean it is by taking them off the heads. Sounds like your engine has not had proper oil changes in the past. Lots of blow-by usually means time to rebuild the engine as the rings are worn and you may want to put on a mechnical oil gage to see how much oil pressure you are getting.

^^^ What he said...............DO NOT use a snake oil "engine flush" to get rid of the crud/sludge unless you want it covering your oil pump pick up screen......It has to go somewhere, and that where it will end up.......Sounds like your motor is in need of more than a cleaning at this point, try doing a compression check first.

You could try auto-rx. Its pricey and takes awhile to clean the engine to be honest.
