Trying to Make a Decision- Keep or Buy a New One
#17
I'd LOVE to have a project like that in front of me with the cash to make it happen, ie: fix it up and convert to 4x4. Why not skip the ball joints (ooops, did you already do them?) and do a SAS while you convert to 4x4?
Anyone can get a newer truck with enough money but not everyone can keep an older truck alive and working better than it was new. Dare to be different I say!

but this one has the 300 and a 5 speed and i love them for towing...they wont tow as fast as a big 250 will but they will do it just as easy
id say keep the 96 man like already mentioned the newer trucks not only spend more time in the shop but also require more "special ford tools" to fix them and therefore cost WAY more to maintain...and to pay 8k for a new truck you could easily do a solid axle 4x4 conversion and fix you tranny or even upgrade to the zf and have money left over...
best bet is to find a complete parts truck, if you find one with everything you need that gone otherwise you can pick the whole thing up for a few hundred most likely, far cry from 8k...
