Rim ideas for Shelby F100...anyone?
#16
I'm looking for rims right now. I did some research, and I really like the 7 spoke 18 inch Lincoln Navigator rims, but they require fab or adapters. Dodge has some interesting rims, but you will probably need spacers too.
Tonight I found out that the 2009 Suzuki Grand Vitara comes with optional 7-spoke 18 inch alloy rims. Lugs and center will fit, but not sure about the back spacing. They actually look damn good. As you can tell, I'm about set on getting something with 7 spokes. I think a 7 spoke 18 inch will go well with the lines and modernize the vehicle without looking too wild or gaudy. Not too big, not too small. The newer ford trucks go with big 7 spokes too.
I want to point out that the rims you guys are looking at will require one more important decision: tires. The tires will make or break the look you want. Have anything in mind?
Also the ride height is important. If you want a Shelby F100, I'd look at a Pro street style ride height. The stock height won't quite be aggressive.

I got Goodyear Eagle GT+4s for my '69 Plymouth- 215/65R15. I'm thinking of something similar for the truck, but that has a better treadwear rating. Those Goodyears are only rated at 240.

I have thought about the stance, too. I don't want to drop the front any, but I do want to get it leveled out in the rear. I'd say 3 inches would probably do it.
I'm going to the big city to visit my mom for her birthday, and I'm going to scrounge around a few junkyards on Friday. I might just find something there, as they seem to have a better selection than the yards around here.
I'll check on those Mustang wheels...I've considered that before, but again, the rarity just isn't there.
Thanks for all the suggestions, and please keep them coming.

Yeah I know a guy that went for the rare and different route once before on a Volkswagon. Some kind of rare discontinued BBS wheel you could only get in Europe or something. Then he got hit by an old lady, broke one, and was forced to buy a whole new set of wheels because he couldn't find another one.

very true bmarkline, if you do find some rare wheels there is the chance of ending up with 3 or less after a mishap, thus you would be stuck with 1 odd wheel or more, and thus you would have to find another one or more,
but you could always do what i am doing, and just keeping a eye and ear out for either another set or someone who tried too find all 4 but but failed, and thus they have one odd wheel or only 2 or 3, and thus you might get a deal on them, just don't let them know you have a complete set on your truck or at home, thus bring another truck to pick them up,
that's my best advice, i know if i see even just one wheel for sale like mine i will be buying it and storing it away, for that ungrateful day that we all hope never happens, knock on wood,,,,,
so don't let there rareness deter you, just keep a eye and ear out all the time for a spare wheel or a complete back up set,
also does anyone have a set of rims like mine? i posted pictures earlier, i have seen similar rims, but not the same, only once in the picture i found in a ad that was too far away, there made by Keystone, i am going to guess there at least 20+ years old, even if they weren't on a dentside just let me know, otherwise i might start to think i am the only person still running them,
also the General Lee rims have even less spokes, but mine do have that style and feel to them, kinda neat,

That's probably what I'm gonna end up doing. If I see one or two in a junkyard that are really cool and/or really rare, I'll buy them and store them just in case.
I'll be looking for five...tall order, I know...so that the spare will be the same. I do need to figure out a way to store the spare, though. My spare mud tire is currently bungeed to the bed, and that has GOT to change.
Your rims are neat, 77f150xlt. I almost got a set like that out of a junkyard for my B250 D****e a couple of years ago...along with some aluminum running boards in nearly perfect condition. Then some idiot told the guy what he had and he tripled the price.

Sounds like it's coming along. I'd like to see pics of your progress when you get a chance. I'm slowly customizing my F100 too. Mine's all torn apart for resto and I'm collecting parts, still changing things as new ideas come along. Right now I'm working on finding cheap parts for my bumper guards, and I'm trying to find a cheap piece of glass for the '69 Charger side mirror I just found. I also just began working on the steering, a '69 F100 column, Falcon horn ring, new steering gear, and a new center link. It keeps me busy.
My father in law has a set of those nice rims you guys are talking about on his new Mustang. I like the spinner caps.

I have pics up on my website, but they only go up to June, I think. Webs has been giving me grief...something about the browser I'm using. I'll update it as soon as I can figure out what's wrong.
I'll upload some pics from time to time in my Eddie album on here.

Yeah, I've got it in my head. I can't draw for crap. I have a rough photoshop I tried, but it's inaccurate. I'm really just trying to make it look smooth and sporty, more like a muscle car, sort of what you're doing, but just in my own way. I also want it to look classic and modern at the same time, like the new breed of muscle cars: the Mustang, Challenger, and Camaro. So far:
The interior will all pretty much be redone. I've got a '65 Olds dash almost done, Silverado bucket seats, '69 steering wheel and horn ring. Not set on a center console yet. Flat door panels that go all the way to the bottom. Handles and latches will mirror the '90s Econoline, a pull handle and a paddle latch handle (same paddle as the '69 F100). Dent trim and bottom exterior trim removed, chrome fender trim gone too, no tailgate trim. '69 charger driver mirror, none on pass. side. '74 front grill, adding bumper guards to bumper. '74 F100 badge on fender. No antenna. Pushbutton door handles. Rear roll pan or style bumper swap. Stake hole delete. 78-79 long bed (w/gas door). Color: Black with white cab top, maybe a silver chevron on the bedside or front fender (not %100 on the colors). Aggressive stance (not sure on the method to achieve) Roughly an 18 inch rim, probably a 7 spoke alloy (more research has indicated that the '09 Vitara rims I wanted won't fit). Nice road tires, not set on size yet. ?Maybe a custom cab fairing, maybe a toneau cover, maybe a Stingray hood scoop? Drive train: I'd love a 428 cobra jet, but all I've got are a running worn out '74 302 w/3 speed Mtx, and a '69 360 w/3 speed mtx that probably needs an engine rebuild. Ford 9 inch rears. I've got 4 rears, 2 from '69s, a '73 and the installed '74. The one in it now has a 3.25 ratio. I'm haven't checked the others yet. I think that's about it.
