Yes, like Franklin says, it should go to the Charcoal Canister Purge Control Valve.

I don't know if the routing is different on the computer controlled models, but on the Duraspark II ignition modules, you've got a hose that runs from the charcoal canister to the external bowl vent near the fuel inlet. There's a T-fitting in the middle of that hose that runs back to the Purge Control Valve which is usually next to the PCV. Then, off the purge control valve, you've got one line that goes to the hot water switch on the heater hose fitting at the front of the motor. The other line off of the Purge CV goes to the little nipple on top of the PCV. The PCV then has the fat hose that goes to the port on the EGR baseplate.

What this does, when the motor is fully warmed up, and vacuum is being sent to the ported switch (it's there if the hose is connected to it, but the switch lets the vacuum through when it heats up and opens when the motor is heated up), then the Purge CV will allow the motor to pull in those gas fumes through the PCV hose. This recycles gas fumes so that they're not vented to the open atmosphere, and lets the motor re-burn those fumes.

IMAGE EDITED OUT

It's not an exact image, but it implies the intended meaning.

The best way to hook the Purge CV up, is to hook it up like is shown on your Vehicle Emissions Control Information label on the radiator support under the hood of the truck. It'll be at the front passenger side and will have a vacuum hose routing diagram on the front as well as idle speeds and timing settings, etc.

Buy some hose and hook 'er up.

EDIT: I decided to do you up a better diagram. It's more location appropriate.

The hose going from the Canister to the carburetor is 3/8''. The hose going from the T-fitting between the canister and the carburetor going to the big port on the Purge CV is 3/8''. The small hoses coming off of the Purge CV going to the water heated PVS and the PCV are both the same size, either 7/32'' or 5/32''.

BullyBlue85,
I have a few pictures that might help a little. Like 1983F1503004x4 and Franklin2 said, it eventually connects to the charcoal purge canister. If you look closely, you can see the two hoses coming off of the PCV fitting. The one going to the Charcoal canister passes through the Purge CV on it's way to the canister, the other is going to the manifold tree under the carburetor.

In this last picture, the Charcoal Canister is in the bottom left hand corner. If you look closely, you can see two hoses coming off of it. The one is going back to the PCV fitting, which is hidden from view by the air cleaner.

I hope this helps.

Thank you Franklin, 1983F150, Grubbworm and Ctubutis.

I read the vacuum diagram on my radiator support, and I must admit, I'm not the best at figuring out what all the abbreviations mean.

I do have two hoses running from my PCV. The fat one does run from the PCV to the EGR base-plate, and the smaller one, as I said initially, is currently not connected to anything. I found what looks like a broken vacuum port on the line that runs from the charcoal canister to the carb, so it looks like the smaller line from the PCV goes to that port.

Here's a close up of the broken port

Is the hot water switch/ported vacuum switch the same as the coolant temp sensor? If not I don't know what you're talking about.

Your pictures did help, thank you. You have a really clean looking engine bay, I'm jealous. As you can see, my bay is a mess. It was like that when I got the truck, one of the projects this summer is to clean it up.

Unfortunately for me, one of the fittings on my charcoal canister is broken, and I have no idea what is suppossed to connect there.

Sorry for the delayed response.

You have to set up an account on a site like photobucket, like this one;

Bully,

You've almost got it... On your Flickr page, use the IMG code in the Share This (or whatever) link.

Bully, try finding a charcoal canister at a junkyard. I was missing the cap from mine, I guess it fell off somewhere. I found a replacement at my local JY, for free (he just said take it, it's not worth writing up).

I looked at the local junkyard the other day, there were absolutely no bullnose trucks. I'll have to find another yard.

You can get those canisters from cars of the era, too - mid-1970s on up.
