Today something odd happened. I was driving along, turned Cruise on, hit set, rode along fine for about a second. Then the engine rev'd, dropped into 3rd and dropped again to 2nd before I tapped the brakes.
Hoping it was just a hiccup, I hit the Set button again and it down shifted and acceled again. This time I turned the cruise off with the switch. For another test, I turned cruise on. No effect. For giggles I hit the coast button. The speed set and stayed stable for 10 miles before I had to turn off. I tried it again coming home, cruise on and set, and it worked normally.
I'm half suspecting a sticky switch, as the speedo read correctly so the VSS is functioning. Unless it's a wiring problem in the column or a communication issue with the Cruise module. Anyone have any known issues, or a way to get some contact cleaner on the switches guts?
Only way to get to the switch guts is to pull the airbag. If you can find a good scanner you can run a switch test. That will let you know if it's a switch issue. I'd lean more toward a computer issue like the VSM not remembering what speed you're looking for.
I don't think compressed air will work. The switches are contained in a plastic housing that has a back. You have to pry the casing apart to get to the switch guts. Now that I'm on my laptop I can add some pics & links.

I still vote for the switch test. I pulled mine completely apart, checked and tested all things cruise button related I could think of with no luck. The switch test pointed me to the $27 CPP switch that took 5 min. to replace.
