I used this HDMF wood (i think thats what is called). Its basically the same as peg bored except no holes. I was gonna put vynle back on it, but i tried just spray painting it black, and it work really well, only cost $8 at home depot. fits good and bends to the curves really nice, easy to wipe down when it gets dirty
Thought I'd share a pic of my headliner. Picked up a used headliner and insulation from a junkyard that they ended up just giving me. I think I'm going there to often I had some headliner material left over from another job and usrd headliner adhesive aand attached to headliner. I think it came out OK.
Well, being asI used to manufacture as well as actually do a few " Custom Vans " in the seventies , I would suggest going to go to Home Depot , Lowes etc and buy a 4X4 piece of Mahogony Plywood paneling . I say mahogany as I found that this isdimensionaly more stable and the tight grain holds staples well.
Now before you just throw the wood up , lets examine the roof itself. How bout putting up some 3inch insulation to ward off excess heat ? A to covering the wood, you can just stain it or perhaps cover it with Common Headliner material avalible from darn nearly upholstry shop or dealer ! If that dosen't suit ya , use the Valour from seats glued to half inch carpet foam ? You can buy 3-M spray glue from artsupply stores , Wal Mart , and some upholstry suppliers and N A P A !
Now go put up that thereheadliner !!!!!!!!!!! Ed Shaver
They make headliners and door inserts out of abs plastic. Went to a seminar on it a couple years back. pretty neat stuff. The abs can be cut with a carpet knife, and glued with abs glue. You can mold it with common items around the shop, and a heat gun. You can get the stuff at your local plastics place, you don't have to go with rod doors stuff (Though they do have quite a few items for the 73-79s).
I used white-faced wallboard for mine, and since I'm making a Shelby F100, I cut another piece and traced a cobra on it. I colored in the snake, cut it out, and will be gluing it to the new headliner panel. I haven't decided whether to leave it black and white or use silver to color in the white areas on the snake. My main interior color will eventually be cast iron metallic gray.
I had to see if I could make it look right first...and a Sharpie doesn't crack like paint might when it is bent. It will probably fade over time (even though it will never be in direct sunlight), but if it does all I have to do is re-color it.
