What is this connector for?

Was wiring up some fog lights and found a loose connector that appeared to be jumped with jumper wire by the PO. What does this plug into. What's it for. I don't no which way this jumper wire goes in and I don't want to short anything out.

The female slot closest to the male pin is hot with Ignition on. The other two female terminals go off thru the dash toward ignition switch, radio etc. somewhere. Not sure where the male terminal goes to. Can anybody look under there dash and see. Thanks.

Looks to me like connector for neutral safety switch. Will the truck start without the jumper?

I know it starts in drive, reverse. Etc. so it's definlty been bypassed. I'll go out and check in a sec.

It should be connected to this

The switch sits on top of the steering column down near the fire wall.

According online. It's should sit like this.

Mine doesn't even have the opening in the column or any bolt holes.

I would guess that the PO replaced the original column with a 78/79 column. Ford went to a transmission mounted switch in those years.

Yea. That's what I'm thinking. Does the wiring default to start in all gears when unplugged?

If a newer steering column has been swapped by a PO, does the pre-'78 C-6 support a transmission mounted neutral switch? Thanks for the photos showing two (?) types of the neutral switch and their locations. Why is starts in gear, and no backup lights, are two things (maybe related) on my list of things to figure out on my new '77. I've already posted some of the wiring issues that I've fixed and will be looking for a similar switch when my truck gets back into the garage (it's in a welder's shop undergoing a power steering conversion).

No.
1967/77 F100/350: NSS (C7TZ-7A247-A / Motorcraft SW-600) located on steering column.

1978/79 F100/350: NSS located on transmission. C6 uses a different NSS (D8TZ-7A247-A / Motorcraft SW-1489) than C4 (D8TZ-7A247-B / Motorcraft SW-1491).

ND, do I read that I can install D8TZ-7A247-A / SW-1489 on my pre-'78 C-6 transmission and run a wire to something to prevent my truck from starting in neutral? My wife has already almost hit the garage back wall a couple of times from not ensuring the truck was in park...

No.
If the column is from a 1978 or 1979, there is no way to mount a NSS on it.

Thanks ND. So I read that there is no way to prevent my truck from starting in gear, except to ensure that it's not in gear when the starter is engaged, without a steering column or transmission swap(?). Good information...

I wonder if you can somehow put a 78-86? tranny switch on it? Never fell into this situation. If anything a custom bracket should work or possibly parts from a 78-86? tranny retrofitted.
