gear selector cable

gear selector cable
friday i put my 2003 f250 into park and whaen i did the orange marker for the gears (automatic by the way) flew all the way over to the right. has anyone had this problem? if it is a broken cable how do you access it and can an average joe replace it or should i have a dealer fix it? thanks for any input.
