1948 F-1 I found Vin #

After having the firewall face down for several weeks, we turned it over yesterday and I recorded what must be the Vin # *88RC*121809 *. I can now get a lost title form and start that process, because I know the former owner and he will help get the title. I feel certain that is the vin # because the ' 49 F-1 that I have a title for, has 98RC then a 6 digit #. I found the vin on the 48 at the top passenger side of firewall, the the 49 has a plate there but I cannot read it and it is not stamped like the "48 is. on the glove box lid on the 49 it only states 4700 lbs vehicle weight.

Yup, it is a '48 F1 1/2 ton with 8 cylinder engine. Good find on the firewall, good luck on the title.

Check the sticky thread at the top of this forum. While that is likely your VIN, the one DMV cares about is on the frame. It's unusual for the VIN to be on the cowl, that is usually an assembly code stamped there.

I think that the frame # was lost when we did the clip change. I will recheck because the # are suppose to be on the frame just ahead of the firewall, either side, from what I have read on other threads.I was suprised to find it so clearly on the cowl. Thanks to all for, the info. and "Happy Motoring"
