Is 1 POR-15 Starter kit enough?

Is it enough to do 1 oil pan? Not sure if I need a quart of POR...

Thanks!

a quart of POR will do the entire underside of most vehicles.... so you should be more than good with a starter kit.

Also- PPG makes a product that is exactly like the metal ready but about half the price. Works exactly the same. Sadly, they do not make an alternative to the actual POR15.

I got my POR kit, was here pretty fast! SO...
1) wire brush off any heavy rust and paing
2) degrease it with the degreaser
3) pretreat it with the pretreater
4) paint it

Any other tips? I have access to a lift at the auto hobby shop on base so I'll be doing this from the underside.

Any tricks or tips that would make this easier/better?

Ummm.... let's see.

Don't work out of the POR container directly. Dump some into another container and work from there, to keep from contaminating the stuff you don't use. It will NOT take much to do just an oil pan.

When reclosing the POR can, put saran wrap between the can and the lid, or it'll never open again.

WEAR GLOVES. and clothes that can get ruined. LONG sleeves. And don't have any tools you care about around there.

I am getting ready to do the entire bottom of my truck tomorrow.

Good luck!

Wow, I'm gonna be sore tomorrow. Truck was too big for the lift at the auto hobby shop so I was on a creeper doing it. Took 2+ hours for prep, and 15 minutes to paint.

Paint seemed to go on thin. That normal? I ran out of time otherwise I would have put a 2nd coat on. Will do that this weekend.

That's just how it goes on. You should not need a second coat, especially if it's in a place that does not get exposed to sunlight. Look on their website at the instructions- they even say that one coat is all you need.

Like I said- I have seen the ENTIRE floor pan of a large car done with just a quart. Front and rear, which is about a 5.5'x8' area. And there was some left over. It doesn't take much.

Their Marine Clean did a great job cleaning stuff up under there. The pan looked pretty good once I cleaned it up, degreased it, and put on the Metal Prep stuff.
