is the zf a granny first and a od 5th if so what years were they produced. What other transmissions share the same bolt pattern? How long is it compared with late 70s 4speeds Would it fit in a late 70s 4x4 and come out of the shifter hole? Will an np 205 transfer case bolt to it or does it have to be divorced. what engines will they fit with the right bell housings? Thanks
i have one that i'm trying to put behind a 460 right now. As far as i know... they were only used by ford behind 460's and diesels. i hear advanced adapters makes an adapter to put it behind other ford motors. I have not yet tried, but i was also told the np 205 would go behind it, but the tcase has to be notched for the locating pin. I will know the rest soon enough.
I believe you are missinformed. The ZF was used on both small-block and big-block engines. It was available in the F-250s and 350s. I believe The 150s had a mazda 5-speed in them. The NP 205 should bolt to the ZF without any modification other than the cross-member.
The ZF is made for small blocks (includingthe I6). It has the same bolt pattern as the T18 but it is a larger transmission. There is an earlier thread by Danny P where he did the same swap that you want to do. I put a 1990 ZF into my 1988 F150 and with some modifications (cross member, driveshaft) it went fine. The ZF has an internal slave while the T18 had an external slave with and a clutch fork. You will bneed a different line fronm the master to the slave but it works fine. The change is definately worth the trouble.
