F5 Torsion Bar Suspension

All they can be are an aftermarket add on. The truck didn't come with rear shocks. The only ones with rear shocks were F-1 and F-2, and optional on F-3. It also is not shown as a factory approved after market product in the Hildy's Blue Book - Special Equipment For Ford Trucks. I just went page by page through my Hildy's and it shows no torsion bar systems at all, only extra overload spring sets. And last, it's not shown in the "R" series MH literature. All that said, that's sure a stout looking system. Stu

I don't think that those are torsion bars. To me, they look like trailing arms. I see a leaf spring, hanger and shackle in the first pic. That would be your suspension system. The trailing arms just keep the axle in alignment. I've never seem them with leaf springs before. They are usually used with coil springs.

Here's one more picture of the set up. When we rolled it off the trailer, the way it flexed really looked like a torsion bar setup. I'll take a closer look when I get home. I was also thinking torsion bar because this was an old oil exploration truck that would have to be stable on sidehills, etc with a half tank full of water. That would put a lot of off camber stress on the suspension.

Since the question first was raised I've added a copy of the R5-4/R6-4 manual to the library. There is no listing in the Parts Manual for the Truxmore system. Nothing in the suspension or special equipment sections. You might check with Chuck to see what he knows about it, unless he drops by here to comment. Stu
