ok here it is, i start the truck hot of cold, drive away and i get kinds like a power surge, when this happens i look at the tail pupi and evry now and then i see blue smoke insink with the truck surging. i goes away it like a mile and it runs good, no other power losses. oil consumption is minimum. now the odometer says 269k, i dont think so oil pressure is high and the engin is clean to clean i look at other idi with over 150k and its the valdees oil slick. my glow plugs are new, the injectors clatter like all hell they might be orginal, is there an oil seal of somekind on these that are bad? no toher smoke, i get on it i get the usual puff of black gray smoke goes away when the rpm comes up. still pulls 10k easy. thanks guys i dont want to junk it yet.
1994 crew cab long box, 5 speed, stock 7.3 idi, 269k
The cdr being clogged will cause this issue but so will a bad injector so start with the easy things clean the cdr it's the can looking thing on the back of the air inlet
CDR dont know due to i dont know what that is. whats it look like
under and behind the air filter housing......it bolts to the manifold with two 1/2 in bolts and has a tube going down into the crankcase. do a google image search and then remove, clean with gas, and test for proper seal. You can google that one too!
Good advice from these guys on the CDR. However I would think you have a fuel supply problem. Check the fuel pipe from the lift pump back to the tank and make sure it is sound. If that is good you may want to do a fuel flow test on the lift pump.
mine is mechanically off of the engine, not belt driven. Not 100% on yours. I am still trying to google and ask ford dealers to help me determine the year of my engine. i think it is an 89. Not sure though.
Vee belt engines have the vacuum pump under the alternator. 1983 - 1992
Serpentine belt engines have them mounted up on top of the engine. 1992.5 - 1994
CDR behind the intake throat, NA engine.
CDR in drivers side rocker cover, ATS 093 or stock Ford turbo.
Lift pump, on all engines it is passenger side, just in front of the motor mount and sort of behind the frame rail.
Mechanically driven off the cam.
