Hey all,
I started removing my front springs today and to my dismay, I was removing the nut on the spring pin on one of the rear brackets- and the zirk side of the pin began to spin and stripped out the bracket side that was supposed to hold it still...
well I growled then took a break.... then I went over to the other bracket and that pin came out fine, but I realized that this bracket was bent!...arrgh!
I searched around and could not find too many folks who sell these brackets. Johns F-Funhundreds lists the bracket for 30 each not including shipping. I thought I would check here and see if anyone had a spare set they would let go for cheap? I searched the swapmeet on this site and did not see any.
Thought maybe some of you who have removed your stock front ends may have them still laying around? Let me know!
Here is a pic for reference I need letterK for both sides.
Does anyone know if the brackets are the same from 48-52?
They are different on 48-52. Hot Rods has them listed in a catalog I have as P/N B5C-5340-C 53-56 Rear Hanger Front $30/each. You can find them here http://hotrodstrucks.biz/
Thanks for the help all...I was at SO CAL AZ today and they ordered me up a set for $23.95 each...( I hope he ordered the right ones as there was no picture to confirm) He ordered them from MAC's Antique Auto parts Part # BC5- 5340-A There computer showed that it was the number for the front spring/rear hanger...when I went to MAC's and typed in the number it just said "rear hanger" Man I hope it is right!
Anyway, that was about as cheap as I found them so I bit the bullet. Thanks again for the replies.
Now I am going to save up and order new front shackles & pins ( I had to heat/beat out the old pins)....then break open my old springs and remove every other leaf; clamp them back up with my new main leafs (stock eye), order new ubolts, longer spring bolts & 4 degree shims
After all that I can move on to the next projects...probably rebuild the drag link ends, replace tie rod with new HD one, new tie rod ends....then on to brakes; probably a disc kit from speedway, then plumb in some lines/hook up my undercab booster. Then on to mounting my Toyota steering!! (need the mount bracket!)
Sounds like fun if I can get the funds to do it! Its hard to keep the momentum going this way!
hi i was just wondering how you made out with your front springs? its just so that i have a complete 53 f1 front axle, spring perch to spindles ,i put the backing plates and hubs on my 50 merc m68.i dont need any of this ,if i can help let me know
Hey, thanks for the follow up Roy...I am still waiting for those front spring/rear hangers (K) to come in that I ordered. I am kind of fearful to see what parts show up as there was no clear proof that the ones we ordered were the shackles I needed. We will see! If they are the wrong ones, I may still need a set.
I do still need a set of the front hanger/spring shackles (H-outer and inner) for both springs as mine got a bit "beat up" when I removed them The more I think about it though, I will probably just bite the bullet and buy those new as well to hopefully eliminate any of the weak links from my suspension and I don't have to worry too much later.
I hope removing the leaves will give me a nice ride. From all I have read it is a good set up. I went with stock eye springs instead of reverse eye because I found the stock eye main leafs new on ebay for 49 bucks for the pair with new clamps. (Normally 289 bucks!)
Thanks so much Roy...i'll let you know if I need anything!
Hi Huntfamily 53 I have a set from a 56 if you need them. Let me know. You can have them for the cost of shipping. I will have to unbolt them from the leaf springs. I changed my front end to IFS. I will be moving in about two weeks and not planing to take this with me.
