Important video/info on Cavitation

I made a youtube video brieflly explaining what is, and how to prevent Cavitation in any high compression engine.

Link:

If you know anyone else with a diesel and does not know about this, please send this video to him/her. All the info you need to know about Cavitation are in the video Discription.

Were you caught by surprise when you opened the radiator cap, or was it known the tank was down?

No haha, it's been a little low like that for close to a year.

Nice video! I like the 15 year old learning to drive also.

I like the one on OBN's Tech articles as well. It shows an actual view of inside the cylinder walls and you can actually see water drip out of nowhere! And it has a nice animation of the explanation of cavitation.

The video is quite clear and shows how to determine if you have enough additive in your coolant. But how do you test for cavitation itself, short of tearing the engine apart?

You cant, even if the engine is tore apart. There's no way to measure cylinder wall thickness. If you dont have the symptoms of cavitation, then its not too late to start adding additives and such. Cavitation is not reversible, but it is stoppable.

This guy does not know what he is talking about!!!
He is either blind or a complete knucklehead.

The basics on cavitation he got right, but what the heck is he talking about rpm's and running the engine for?

It's the amount of additive in the coolant and it does not matter if the engine is running or not.

It's a test that needs a specific temp (between 50 and 130 degrees) and timed for between 45 and 75 seconds!

PPM is not the same as RPM, and it states 0 PPM, 300 PPM, 800 PPM, 1800 PPM and 3200 PPM, as in PARTS PER MILLION!

Also, there is a thing they can do called sonic checking the block and it will measure the remaining thickness of the cylinder wall.

Better check the date on those strips. When the third pad (nitrate) is brown they are NO GOOD. Unless you own a fleet of trucks it's better to buy the four pack of strips that are individually sealed.
