I asked this question in the Explorer Forum, so please excuse this repost here.... I forgot about the Tranny Forum.
Anyone ever replace the Mazda M50D tranny with one that isnt prone to explosion?
A friend of mine has just gone thru their second tranny in 4 months. The input shaft sheared on both of them. It is a 91 Explorer V6 4L 5spd. Is there a better tranny that is a bolt in???
Thanks.
I replaced my M5OD with a NP435. But I don't think that would be posible in an Explorer. For one, I don't know of a bellhousing that would work, and two, mine was in an F250, so there would be some size consideration to think about. The np435 is wider then the Mazda by about 2 inches, and is about 3 inches shorter.
