I have a 2000 7.3 psd 126000 miles . 2 weeks ago I posted here about the engine running rough. It cleared up and then started acting up again. I took it to a diesel repair shop and they can`t figure it out. Here are the symptoms. Truck starts up rough with eratic idle for about 10 seconds then settles down. The next mile of driving is like a gas engine with a fouled plug, after a mile it runs normal untill it is shut down and then it starts all over again. The mechanic found fuel laying in the manifold between the heads, he wiped it up and said it was the o-ring on the fuel filter but that wasn`t it obviously. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ron
More likely, the fuel came from the fuel drain valve orings (replacement part available from Diesel 0 ring.com. Link in sig) It would have to be a bad leak to affect engine, unless bowl is draining while setting, then air gets in fuel rails and clears after a short drive. Hmm, could be. Check and see if you are still getting fuel in valley of engine.
There is a very small ( maybe a teaspoon) amount present, but I do not know if the mechanic got 100% of it when he worked on it. Also it doesn`t do it all the time . It`s driving me nuts. Thanks
Yea, sounds about right to be, either air in the fuel rails or loose UVCH. I pulled my valve covers off today just to do the quarter mod and torque things down so I don't end up in situations like this. No offense, just planning ahead and trying my darnedest to learn from these great group of peeps.
The engine has been running fine today since I filled the tank. Everytime it ran rough the fuel level was slightly below an eighth of a tank. I don`t know if this is coincidence or not.
That's your problem, you're sucking air from the poorly designed fuel pickup. You can fix it with some in tank mods. or just keep your tank level above 1/4.
