Thanks, and yeah the open headers will be fixed this week, and I have never had a shroud on the motor before and I probably won't on this one either, it never over heats and runs great so unless I absolutely need one, I dont think I'll ever have one

Haha, i'm not stupid, trust me, you can say what you want but you can sure come over and see it in person, many wont believe it but i guess i was right behind the wheel when it was happenin. The thing was rappin out to beat hell so i'm pretty sure the tach was right.

What I am saying is a stock (and I can't recall now, was your 360 stock?) FE will not rev to 7000 repeatedly. Many say the valves float at 4500 on the 360.
In the day, Ford had to upgrade the solid-liftered, 4 bolt main 427 to make it live up to 7000. Do you have such an upgrade done to your heads?
If you have a 360 that will repeated rev to 7000, you have a national treasure.

Its not stock, it just had some minor upgrades, all i can say is i do not have that upgrade and my valves never floated. i do not know how it survived it but it did, but sorry i didn't include this and idk if it will make a difference but it was actually a 330 out of a grain truck, i just call it a 360 cuz many have never heard of the 330.

Nice looking and sounding truck. All our FE engines are for race only, so I am hearing 6500-6800 rpm all the time "under a load". Your engine sounds very good, but when your tach showed 6500 rpm, the engine did not sound like it was at 6500 rpm. It is not unusual to get tach needle bounce.
What is important is that you have a nice truck and a nice sounding engine.
So, be proud and enjoy your ride.
BTW,,, If your engine was at 6500 rpm under a no load condition, it is not good for longevity.
Nice truck....

Good one. I have also heard of a Ford 289 that could rev to 9000 stock. I guess all the engines I've ever had have been built on a Friday afternoon and didn't get the magical "blueprinting" to make it rev.

Sorry, son, and I realize you're probably not going to listen to me any more than you do any of the other experienced folks on here, but suffice to say that I have 9 427's of various heat levels and 5 428's, including 2 CJ's and an SCJ, and have a pretty good idea what they sound like at 6500 (and well beyond) and that one isn't turning 6500. I would guess either the tach's not right or it's an adjustable one set on 6 cyl- I used to have a blast cheesing the Chebbie guys with my '69 Mach1, 351W with a roller cam, but still ran out of wind around 5800- but I could show the kids 7000 by flipping the switch LOL. And as the others have tried to tell you, the only way a 330MD (or a stock 360) would turn 7000 would be downhill with no brakes
And as others have also tried to tell you, dry-winding it to the sky just so you can say you did ain't good for the longevity of the beast- but you may have to learn that one the hard way. The smoke puffing out of the headers also suggests she's not quite ready for prime time, either- might want to get a few miles on it first.
BTW, if you intend to do much serious hill-country off-roading, you'll want to switch to a side-hung float carb- those cathedral bowls will flood over on you if you get very steep fore & aft- a bad thing to find out halfway up a steep hillclimb, and you have to back down with a dead engine
