tap size for isspro egt probe?

What is the tap size needed for the egt probe? I was told it is a 1/8 - 27npt and to use a type R drill bit. Is that correct?

also how far in do you stick the probe? Thank you.

I think the info you have is correct as I recall. You try to position the tip of the probe in the middle of the area that you are installing in.

I'll go out to the shop and double check the drill size if it's correct I'll just let it slide.

You should have gotten some instructions along with the probe.

All's well. If you don't have Letter drills you can also use an 11/32" drill they are both so close to one another it won't make any difference.

Well that all depends on what thermocoupler you use. I have one that's 1/4 npt and another that's 1/8 npt. For 1/4" I use 7/16 drill and for 1/8" I use 11/32 because I don't have letter size bits, if you have them you can use either Q or R

Thanks kawa and BlueMule. I have a friend that owns a machine shop and he has the correct R bit and tap. The thermocoupler box does say 1/8 steel tip so that must be right.

kawa when you said position the tip in the middle of the area, did you mean the area within the exhaust manifold?

thanks agian for the help.

You're gonna put it in the exhaust manifold right? When you drill the hole just aim the drill toward the #8 exhaust port in the manifold, that way when you install the probe if there is any extra length it will go in the port rather than make contact with the opposite wall.
