regear or or not to regear

I have a question on changing the ring and pinion
on my 1995 f-150, it has a 3:08 I would like to change
to a 3:83 or someting a little lower than stock for better
low end torque, but the problem is the VSS is in the rear end
or so iv been told there is a sensor just above the pinion going
in to the housing, what all would be involved in this kind of
swap has anyone done this before with this type of sensor,
or could i just kill this sensor without any problems.
