F-550 2003 7.3

Hi,folks. I haven't been here in awhile. My plow truck is just sitting now in the off season, the mechanic says if it sits for more then a couple of days, especially if it's been raining, when he goes to use it it runs at reduced power for quite awhile until he drives it around town, then it clears up. He hasn't mentioned any codes but it has a check engine light when it acts up. It has had trouble in winter with snow injestion in the air cleaner but that shouldn't be a problem now. Thank you, for any replies or suggestions. plowking.

If it has a check engine light, it has a code stored. You need to find a code reader that reads PSD codes.

Agreed. Get the code(s) and report back. Until we know what they are, we are shooting in the dark.

I had the truck scanned today. The codes are P1316 ,P1248,P1247. 1st code says Ign. Diagnostics, other codes are for Turbo boost pressure not detected or low. Reset truck,it's running good now until next time light comes on. The coolant temp.sensor says the temp. is 40 below today, that's not right. Truck was running at reduced power and missing. Thank you for any help. plowking

The two things highlighted in bold will be the result of the plug coming out of the receptical on the inside of the valve cover.
Which will result in engine missing, which will result in low boost pressure because all eight are not firing, generating the exhaust heat necessary to drive the turbo fully.
.
Pull both valve covers.
Retorque the rocker pedastals, injector hold downs.
Make sure the plugs are fully seated everywhere.
I'll bet that fixes everything.

Thank you. I'll bring this info to the mechanic. The truck will take 15-20 minutes in winter to warm up to get full power[ drive it slow or leave it idling, sits in unheated garage] don't know if this is relate or not. plowking

Tell your mechanic to get the retainer clips from Ford or International. They act as a shim to keep the plugs from coming undone. Their not much money, and definitely cheaper than paying to pull the valve covers again in the future.

Might want to recheck that temp sensor. if the computer thinks that its 40 below, it will cause some driveability issues.

Where is the coolant temp. sensor located? Would it be in or near in the thermostat housing? plowking
