so... how hard was that exactly? changing the gears isnt that hard to me but all this fabrication sounds like it could be a pain in the ***. would it be better to just go with 4.10s?

If you use the factory speed sensor you can only use the 4.30 or 4.88 gears. I'm a maintenance mechanic so fabracating the new sensor bracket was no big deal.

Yes front is a dana 60 and rear is dana S110. I could get pics. you can run without sensor, but you would loose anti lock and the light on the dash would stay on. Speedo would work fine.

I am not new to the pages, to Ford trucks or diesel engines with different gear ring sets. My 95 had 4:10... my 02 had 3:73 and now my 2010 has 4:30's. I have run a gammit of gearing. All good results for what I wanted or needed. Not alot mentioned about 4:30 gearing. My 2010 has them and I run 2000 Rpms at 60 MPH. I have only 10000 miles and pulling my 15.5K fifthwheel I am getting 10.8 MPG right now. Throw the Jeep on back and it goes down to 9.3 MPG .. I hold 60 MPH as it runs real good at 2000 RPMs.

I do not know how this will vette out as the engine breaks in more... hopefully better

I had one of those (still have it actually) in an old 7.3 and it was the bees knees.

The thing with a gear change is you are stuck with what you get, whereas with the OD unit you can have it all.
Chatted with GV at their facility in CA. They said that the addition of their unit will work great for the 450 but in the unloaded condition. They do not recommend installing it and hauling heavy it becomes a longevity issue. They have two versions one that goes on the end of the transfercase and one that goes on the end of the transmission. I was lookign at the latter to mount betweenthe trans and the T-case. Issue comes up with output shafts. GV output is a 31 spline, the input on the 08 T-Case is 34 spline. You could get a pre 05 t-case..... but they upsized the shaft for a reason is my thinking....... and they still do not recommend using the GV in the OD mode with as little as 5000# in the bed ( Camper).

While the add says they do make over and under drives, the OD model is only available for our trucks.......

TEX450. I would look at a transmission upgrade something like Suncoast if you are going to go to 3.73 gears and plan to haul 24K on a trailer. There is goign to be a lot of stress on the gear train getting started and pulling a grade plus you have a tuner. A simple gearing/roadspeed calculator will help determine RPM for a given gearing in OD and for a given MPH. This should help you decide which set of gears will work best. Remeber flat land you can run 3.XX or even 2.XX ratios but road speed will suffer greatly when pulling a grade so will fuel economy. You need to find the balance of fuel consumption vs gearing vs road speed.

I am looking at the option of installing a SunCoast converter and trans with custom electronics tune or just plain switching to a ZF6 speed or possibly a 7 speed with 4.10 gears. The factory auto just wastes too much power with 4.30 gears until it locks up.

Before winter rolled in I was getting 17.5-18 empty and 16 with 4K in the bed (2 runs of 425 miles w/load) Now withthe cold here over teh last couple of weeks (Teens) the mileage has dropped to 14-15 w/o the cold front. Looking for a cold front to see if that will help but the deler is not stating a delivery time. H&S 5 inch sewer pipe Volant CAI......

Not sure what your truck is but I'm thinking it's an F350 DRW, 2WD. Mines an 08 but I think the running gear is the same. I kept very good records on a 9500 mile trip last summer. lots of Rocky Mountain time included and one tank into a really stiff wind. I'm well broken in at 28,000 miles. My 5er weighs 16.5 to 17K. I also tow at 60 MPH 2000 RPM. Total for the trip was 9.5 MPG. Total for the 6400 +or- (don't have my log book in front of me)towed miles was 8.8. Almost all non-towing driving was in town (tourist trap) environments. All mileage was hand calculated, the computer is not accurate. I am bone stock. Add 20oz of Diesel Clean with each fill up (60 gal titan tank). So, I would say unless you modify something what you get is what you're gonna get. But, if you find a way to improve it please share. hope this is helpful, even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear.

I have talked to 2 drivetrain shops And both of them have no clue what I'm talking about About the abs sensor not working with 373 gears.... Is there anyway to explain this to me where I can explain it to them better
