HELP! I think my new turbo may have problems

ok here's the situation...

Bought A "NEW" GT38R turbo and I think that something may be wrong with it

Had my mechanic come over today to do install. He is pretty certain that it is a rebuilt unit.
Here's why
Shaft has play (1/16")
Impeller blades have small specs that look like some sand or something was blown through
Stamp on top has one number ground off and restamped

What should i do?

Where is the play you are talking agout. Is is up and down, or in and out?

This sure don't sound like something Clay would do. Did you install the turbo?

Give me a call, it should NOT be used in any way!! If there is an issue, I will handle it. This shipped directly so I haven't seen it.

Sounds like Clay is going to take care of you. Are you sure your mechanic is not just pissed because you bought your turbo from someone else?

My mechanic does not sell parts per se. He offered to go to the dealer and get the part for me, but he does not make money selling parts, just on the labor end.

The Ford dealer will not have parts for the GT38r. Give Clay a chance, you will come out to the good.
